Chitipati (also known as Citimati or Lha mo Kinkara), the sacred protectors of cemeteries and dancers of impermanence in Vajrayana Buddhism. Represented as a pair of dancing male and female skeletal deities embraced in dynamic posture atop a lotus pedestal, they are surrounded by a brilliant halo of flames (prabhamandala) and a ring of human skulls, symbolizing the transformation of raw earthly passion and mortal decay into spiritual liberation. Modernly recognized through sacred cham dance rituals, these "Lords of the Funeral Pyre" hold ritual implements such as a skull-topped staff (khatvanga) and Kapalas (skull cups), serving as a profound reminder of the impermanence of all worldly existence, ultimate voidness (sunyata), and the victory of wisdom over fear and death.
