(Newari Paubha) style painting centers around Manjushri, the Bodhisattva of Transcendent Wisdom, who brandishes a flaming sword in his right hand to cut through ignorance and holds a lotus supporting the Prajnaparamita Sutra (the Perfection of Wisdom text) near his left shoulder. Surrounding the central figure are other prominent sacred Buddhist iconography: a revered Nepalese stupa in the top left, the blue Medicine Buddha seated atop clouds in the top right, a wrathful protector deity (Vajrapani) amidst flames at the bottom left, and the compassionate Green Tara seated on a lotus throne at the bottom right. Rendered with intricate gold leaf embellishments, elaborate halo motifs, sweeping clouds, and a mythical dragon coiled through the lush landscape, the artwork serves both as a devotional visual aid for meditation and a vibrant testament to Himalayan Buddhist art traditions.
