Amitabha Buddha (Opagme ), the Buddha of Infinite Light and Pure Land (Sukhavati) in Vajrayana and Mahayana Buddhism. Seated in the full lotus posture (padmasana) on a multicolored lotus throne supported by swirling clouds, he is instantly recognizable by his rich ruby-red skin, which symbolizes love, passion transformed into discriminating wisdom, and the west direction. Both of his hands rest gently in his lap in the dhyana mudra (gesture of meditative equipoise), holding a blue begging bowl (patra) that signifies contentment and the eradication of desire. Draped in golden-yellow and teal monastic robes with iconic marks of a Buddha—including the blue topknot (ushnisha), elongated earlobes, and a serene facial expression—he is encircled by a glowing halo against a sky featuring the sun, moon, and stars, with customary precious offerings arranged across the base.
