Manjushri (Jamphelyang), the Bodhisattva of Transcendent Wisdom in Mahayana and Vajrayana Buddhism. Seated in the full lotus posture (padmasana) atop a vibrant lotus throne, his right hand brandishes the flaming sword of wisdom (khadga) high above his head, symbolizing the cutting through of ignorance, delusion, and attachment. His left hand holds the stem of a blooming blue lotus (utpala) near his heart, supporting a text of the Prajnaparamita Sutra (the Perfection of Wisdom Sutra). Rendered with a golden complexioned body, an ornate crown, fine gold jewelry, and flowing blue silk robes, he sits in peaceful contemplation framed by a soft halo against a misty landscape of rolling hills, with traditional auspicious offerings lined across the lower foreground.
